So flight school has officially begun. I find it somewhat difficult to "take it all in". Maybe because I have been waiting for so long just to get here. I think this dream started 15 years ago when I was in ROTC at Texas A&M. Now, at the ripe age of 34 (probably the oldest guy in my class) I'm getting fitted for my flight suit/harness, and my flight helmet. It's really cool and anti-climatic all at the same time. I'm actually sitting in the hallway outside a classroom right now typing out this post. I just took my Aeromed exam. I think I did o.k. There were a few questions where I wasn't 100% confident but I'm pretty sure I did well enough to move on. I hate to sound like I might be settling for mediocrity (because I'm not). But, exams and tests in the Army usually turn into these big "dick-swinging" contests, and it just gets old after awhile.
I think this afternoon we head back out to the airfield. I've been so focused on studying I haven't even bothered to look at the schedule. Next week we go is systems. I also got my "stick-buddy" assignment yesterday. Chris Fulton. He's from Texas too, which is kind of cool. Other than that, I don't know too much about him other than he was in the Navy and was an airplane mechanic. *Update* - scored a 90 on the Aeromed exam (which is below average - awesome). I've been told that this is one of the hardest tests in flight school though…. we'll see.
